MANILA, Philippines – After 18 years, the Philippines’ free trade agreement (FTA) with Japan is finally headed for its first revision, with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) eyeing the completion of the renegotiated deal as early as November.

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said negotiators are now working to finalize updates to the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (Jpepa), noting that discussions gained momentum following President Marcos’ state visit to Japan in late May.
