Nikola Tsolov delivered another standout performance by winning the Formula 2 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, securing his fourth victory of the season and dramatically tightening the battle for the championship. The 19-year-old Campos Racing driver claimed his third feature race win of the year after executing a perfectly timed strategy that enabled him to finish ahead of title rival Gabriele Mini, cutting the Italian's lead in the standings to just two points.
The race got off to a chaotic start when Sebastian Montoya of Prema Racing and Rafael Villagomez of Van Amersfoort Racing collided in Turn 2, bringing out the safety car. Racing resumed on the fourth lap, and Tsolov quickly began making progress after starting from third on the grid. He overtook Alex Dunn of Rodin Motorsport at the start before passing his Campos teammate Noel Leon to move into the lead during the opening laps.
The strategic battle soon became the deciding factor. Tire stops began on Lap 7, with Tsolov pitting a lap later. Although Campos Racing experienced a slight delay during the tire change, dropping the Bulgarian to 14th place, the early stop proved to be the right decision. Most of the drivers ahead remained on worn tires, while Tsolov gradually climbed back into contention as his fresh tires reached full performance.
