Baba-Ahmed had, in a statement issued on June 4, 2026, urged Tinubu to step down, accusing the president of failing in his constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of Nigerians amid the deteriorating security situation.
A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general elections, Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, has distanced himself from his party's National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, over the latter's call for President Bola Tinubu to resign over the country's worsening insecurity.
Baba-Ahmed had, in a statement issued on June 4, 2026, urged Tinubu to step down, accusing the president of failing in his constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of Nigerians amid the deteriorating security situation.
However, in a statement personally signed on Sunday and titled "A Message of Hope to the Nigerian People; Nigeria Shall Rise Again," Kingsley said he did not support calls for the president's resignation, insisting that Nigeria's democratic system already provides constitutional mechanisms for leadership transition.
"I mourn with families that have lost loved ones through insecurity and sympathise with workers, entrepreneurs and young Nigerians facing economic hardship," he said.
