More than 1.99 lakh children aged below five years received polio drops in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts under the Pulse Polio Programme on Sunday.A total of 1.36 lakh children were administered pulse polio drops at 756 booths across Dakshina Kannada between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The highest number of children, 61,738, received the drops in Mangaluru taluk, followed by 28,427 in Bantwal, 19,725 in Puttur, 18,080 in Belthangady and 8,747 in Sullia. The district achieved 97.2% coverage against the target of 1.40 lakh children, according to an official press release.The vaccination drive was launched by MLC Ivan D’Souza, who administered pulse polio drops to a few children at the Government Lady Goschen Hospital on Sunday morning.As many as 62,835 children were administered pulse polio drops across Udupi district. A total of 31,965 children received the drops in Udupi block, 20,612 in Kundapura block and 10,258 in Karkala block. The district achieved 96.1% coverage against its target of 65,385 children, according to an official press release.The polio vaccination drive in Udupi district was launched by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Udupi.
