Members of the fishing community have appealed to the Tamil Nadu government and Union government to expedite the repatriation process of the Ramanathapuram fishermen from Sri Lanka who were released by the Sri Lankan court recently.Jesu Raja, a fishermen association leader, said, 22 fishermen from Rameswaram, Pamban and Thanganchimadam, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy about a year ago was lodged in their prison.As they had completed their sentence, the court released them from the prison, he added.Following their release, they were accomodated in a camp in Colombo. “Keeping them in the camp till the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka complete their process is a routine procedure,” he noted.However, even after 25 days, the process seemed not to have been initiated and due to that they were still languishing in the camp, he alleged.“The Tamil Nadu government should take steps to expedite the repatriation process to bring back the fishermen from Sri Lanka,” Mr. Jesu Raja said.
