TechnologyBroadbandThe UK's broadband has been tested and these are best and worst for speeds.07:47, 28 Jun 2026The latest broadband speed figures are in, and they suggest millions of UK households are still struggling with internet speeds that fall below even the government's minimum standard.‌That's according to the testing team at Broadband Genie, who say they analysed more than 144,000 consumer speed tests. During the study, they found that some customers are unable to achieve download speeds of 10Mbps – the minimum level the UK government defines as a "decent" broadband service.‌As a quick guide, downloading a full HD movie with 10Mbps would take over 40 minutes that's compared to just 5 minutes with a 100Mbps connection.‌So, which providers performed worst?The results show that mobile broadband users - with internet delivered via 4G and 5G rather than fixed-line cables - are the most likely to experience slow speeds.Vodafone's Mobile Broadband service ranked bottom of the table, with 34.1% of customers failing to reach the 10Mbps minimum download speed. Three Home Broadband followed, with 28.8% of users below the threshold, while EE Mobile Home Broadband came next on 25.8%.‌Among traditional fixed-line broadband providers, EE recorded the weakest performance. Broadband Genie found that 24.3% of EE customers failed to achieve download speeds of 10Mbps, while 21% also missed the 1Mbps minimum upload speed. Zzoomm, Hey! Broadband, Onestream, toob and Squirrel all recorded fewer than 2% of customers falling below the government's minimum speed threshold.Commenting on the findings, Broadband Genie strategist Alex Tofts said: "It's unbelievable so many customers aren't receiving what the government deems a 'decent' broadband speed.
