To adapt a line from Mark Twain, reports of faith-based entertainment’s mainstream appeal have been greatly exaggerated for a long time. A spate of biblically themed movies earned 2014 the moniker “the year of the Bible,” and since then, at least, trend-watchers have insisted that faith-based entertainment is on the cusp of becoming the next big thing.
