Police on Saturday apprehended the driver of an SUV that allegedly hit and killed a 34-year-old Gurugram resident in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj earlier this week, officers said.The accused, identified as Apurv Singh, 30, was sent for a medical examination while the SUV involved in the accident was seized, the police said. The deceased, Sarthak Mattoo, an event management professional, was travelling from Gurugram to Noida on office work when the accident occurred on June 25, two days before his birthday. Police said a PCR call reporting the accident was received at Vasant Kunj South police station. The caller informed police that a car had hit a motorcycle, critically injuring the rider.Mattoo was taken to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.His family said they had been preparing to celebrate his birthday on June 27 when they received a call around 7.45 a.m. on Thursday informing them about the accident.Police registered an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation. While examining CCTV footage, they traced the vehicle to a Bengaluru-based private company.Police said the SUV had been leased to Sagar Saha, 29, who is posted in Bengaluru but currently lives in Gurugram. During questioning, he told police that the SUV was being driven by his friend, Mr. Apurv, a private firm employee residing in Gurugram. Further probe is under way.
