Three persons — a 40-year-old delivery agent, a 25-year-old motorcyclist and a 63-year-old autorickshaw driver — died in separate road accidents in Delhi on Monday. The police are treating the first two incidents, both involving speeding SUVs, as “hit-and-run” cases and searching for the accused. The third incident has been attributed to a medical emergency suffered by a DTC driver, who lost control of the bus, which rammed six to seven vehicles, including the auto.

The first incident was reported at 6.30 a.m. from Nelson Mandela Marg in south-west Delhi, where a speeding car hit the delivery agent riding an electric scooter.

“On receiving the information, a team from the Vasant Kunj, North, police station reached the spot and found a damaged electric two-wheeler, but not the injured person,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Amit Goel.

He added, “Later, AIIMS Trauma Centre informed the police about a man named Rajkumar, who was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. A preliminary probe revealed that the victim was going to work when he was struck by a speeding electric car.”

Rajkumar, a resident of Munirka and a native of Manipur, was going to his workplace — a delivery store in Masoodpur — at the time of the incident, said the DCP, adding that the offending vehicle has been identified. “Further inquiries and appropriate legal action are being undertaken,” Mr. Goel said.
