Gandhinagar: Union Minister for Home and Cooperative Affairs Amit Shah on Saturday launched the cooperative-sector taxi service, 'Bharat Taxi', in Gujarat.The service will be available across Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Mehsana, Anand, Valsad, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.Addressing the gathering, Shah said private taxi companies exploited both drivers for their own profits and users of taxi services. He said the government decided to introduce a cooperative-model taxi service after extensive deliberations on how to end such exploitation in the sector.Also Read: Bharat Taxi to expand to over 500 cities in two years: Union minister Amit ShahPointing out that the cooperative sector has demonstrated extraordinary achievements in several fields, Shah said Bharat Taxi was conceived to ensure that neither Sarathis (drivers) nor customers faced any form of exploitation and that drivers received the respect they deserved."Today, it can proudly be said that the 700,000 Sarathis associated with Bharat Taxi are its owners and shareholders," he added.
