Cuba’s sanctioned military conglomerate GAESA, which controls much of the island’s economy, has spun off its port management business seeking to unlock stalled foreign supplies, several industry sources told AFP Friday.

GAESA was the main target of sweeping sanctions announced by US President Donald Trump on May 1 targeting the country’s energy, defense, mining, security and financial services sectors – all dominated by the sprawling group.
