MANILA, Philippines – Three students were killed, and 20 others were injured, after two minors, aged 14 and 15, opened fire inside the San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on June 22. The Tacloban City Police Office said classes were already ongoing when the shooting happened.
At least 34 rounds were fired. Two students were declared dead on the spot inside the school. The other fatality was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
Authorities filed criminal complaints against the 15-year-old student before the Tacloban City Prosecutor’s Office on June 23 for three counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and multiple counts of serious physical injuries. The 14-year-old will undergo an intervention program.
Meanwhile, on June 25, the Senate impeachment court terminated the pre-trial conference for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial after both the House prosecutors and Duterte’s defense team finished the marking of evidence on the last two articles of impeachment — confidential funds and unexplained wealth — against the Vice President, paving the way for the trial proper that will commence on July 6.
The parties will now wait for the impeachment court’s pre-trial order, which will contain the roadmap on how the trial will run in the coming months.
