The American Hellenic Institute has urged President Donald Trump to reverse course on the proposed sale of US-made F110 fighter engines to Turkey and abandon any effort that could pave the way for Ankara’s possible acquisition of F-35 fighter jets.

In a letter addressed to the president, AHI President Nick Larigakis expresses the organization’s “deep concern” over the administration’s formal notification to Congress of the proposed sale of more than $700 million worth of GE Aerospace F110 engines for Turkey’s KAAN fifth-generation fighter program.

The letter also voices concern over reports that the Administration is reviewing a possible legal pathway that could ultimately allow Turkey to obtain F-35 aircraft.

Larigakis reminds Trump that it was his own administration that imposed sanctions on Turkey’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), following Ankara’s acquisition of the Russian S-400 air defense system. He argues that the decision reached in 2020 was the correct one and urges the President to remain consistent with that policy.
