Antarctica's McMurdo Station experienced a momentary power outage that now means staff are subject to water restrictions.A staff member at McMurdo, who didn't want to be identified, said there was a power "blink" around 5am that lasted less than a second.Backup generators immediately kicked in and the facility has mostly returned to normal operations. However, there is now a 'code orange' water restriction in place, meaning staff can only have a two minute shower twice a week.About 30 New Zealanders are believed to be among the 218 staff members currently at the station. The staff member said investigations are underway to find the source of the outage.Previously, above-ground power lines have gone down after being buffeted by extreme Antarctic winds. It is currently minus-24 degrees Celsius at the station, with a wind chill of minus-35 degrees. The staff member said that, other than the shorter showers, everything is back to normal at the station. The US-run McMurdo Station is the largest station on the continent, located on the southern tip of Ross Island.
