The Federal Ministry of Education has halted the appointment of 24 personal aides by the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, describing the appointments as irregular and contrary to regulations governing Nigeria's federal universities.

The ministry also summoned the Vice-Chancellor to Abuja for a meeting with senior ministry officials on Monday, June 29, 2026, over the controversial appointments.

Following the ministry's directive, the university formally announced the withdrawal of the appointments with immediate effect.

In a circular dated June 24 and addressed to the university community, the FUTO Registrar, Chiedozie Uba, disclosed that the appointments earlier communicated through a memo had been reversed.
