The decision by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to name the newly inaugurated Umuahia Central Bus Terminal after the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Prof Nnenna Oti, has triggered criticism from the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The party described the honour as ethically questionable and politically provocative.
The opposition party faulted the recognition accorded to Prof Oti, who served as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s returning officer during the 2023 Abia State governorship election.
It argued that the gesture could undermine public confidence in the neutrality of the electoral process.
