TV shoppers who want more than just a black rectangle on their wall can’t consider Amazon Prime Day complete without noticing how Samsung’s The Frame TV fell to a new record low price that’s likely to disappear by end of day, when the sale event concludes. This discount slashes $400 off the typical price of a 55-inch version of Samsung’s 2025 update, which was actually $600 more expensive when it originally debuted.

The Frame TV won over CNN Underscored readers and editors for its ability to act as both a television and art display. And to anyone who might say “hey, TV is art,” I agree with you, we’re talking about something else. When The Frame TV is not being used for watching movies, TV, sports, news or other programming, its matte display presents works of fine art pulled from Samsung’s repository. Among them are pieces by masters such as Vincent van Gogh, Keith Haring and Salvador Dali.

When I first got to see The Frame for myself, I was pretty impressed by how well its matte screen presents paintings, watercolors and other works. (I saw that as someone who used to work on posters and other printed products as an employee of The Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2009 to 2014.)

As a TV, The Frame has always been relatively good, but this 2025 model benefitted from upgrades that had TV snobs looking down on past iterations. One of the marquee reasons to upgrade from past The Frame models is the improved peak brightness, which made it better for consuming shows and movies in bright and moderately lit situations. Don’t go looking for OLED-quality contrast, but Samsung’s NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor helped it stand above competitors when it coms to picture quality.
