A ‘pink room’ was inaugurated at the Avadi Corporation Higher Secondary School, Thirumullaivoyal, to provide a safe space for the girl students to rest during menstruation. The initiative by Aahwahan Foundation, in collaboration with NTT DATA, aims to support girls during menstruation, as many are forced to stay home because of menstrual pain, fear of leakage, lack of sanitary products, and the absence of private spaces to rest. The facility has a bed, a recliner chair, a hot bag, sanitary pads, as well as a napkin vending machine, drinking water, tables and chairs, storage shelves, indoor games, and an attached washroom with shower facilities. A ‘pink teacher’ has also been appointed to provide guidance and emotional support to students.Braja Kishore Pradhan, CEO and founder of Aahwahan Foundation, said, “Our mission is to ensure that no girl is forced to miss school because of a natural biological process. The pink room is not just a facility – it is a space of dignity, care, and reassurance that every girl deserves in her school journey.” Published - June 27, 2026 12:31 am IST
