Passengers traveling to and from Athens airport faced waits of up to two hours on Thursday.
The main cause of the delays, apart from the usual high traffic recorded due to the summer season, was the failure of one of the approach radars, located in the Merenta area of the Civil Aviation Authority, which is under the Transport Ministry.
Kathimerini understands the problem appeared around Wednesday night at 11:10 pm and was restored at 9:20 am on Thursday morning.
The loss of data from this particular radar forced the air traffic control services to temporarily reduce the rate of arrivals for safety reasons.
