Bafana Bafana forward Thapelo Maseko celebrates his goal against South Korea, with legends tipping him continue with his sharp form against Canada.

Thapelo Maseko has been tipped to join an elite group of Bafana Bafana players who have scored more than one goal at a single Fifa World Cup tournament, as the national team looks to extend their historic run in North America.

Maseko was the hero on Thursday morning when Bafana progressed to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in history, scoring the only goal to defeat South Korea in their final group stage clash.

The 22-year-old had enjoyed an impressive tournament even before that. In Bafana's second Group A match, his pace and trickery in the final third won the penalty that salvaged a 1-1 draw against Czechia.

Given his form, Maseko is expected to start again when Bafana face tournament co-hosts Canada in the Round of 32 in Los Angeles on Sunday night (9pm kick-off). A win would secure an unprecedented Round of 16 berth under coach Hugo Broos.
