Ukraine's Engineering Forces are continuously expanding a layered defensive system in the country's north, including along the border with Belarus, to prevent any surprise enemy actions on potential axes of attack.
This was stated in a comment to Ukrinform by Maksym Kravchuk, Spokesperson for the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"A separate area of focus is strengthening the layered defense in northern Ukraine, including along the border with Belarus. The work is ongoing without interruption to prevent any surprise actions by the enemy and to create a reliable defense system both along the border and in the country's interior, including preparations for the all-round defense of settlements (defensive hubs) on likely enemy offensive routes," Kravchuk said.
He noted that the Engineering Forces are no longer building isolated fortifications but rather an integrated, multi-layered defensive network. This includes fortified positions, anti-tank ditches, 'dragon's teeth' concrete obstacles, explosive and non-explosive barriers, as well as anti-drone protection for logistical routes.
According to Kravchuk, Ukraine's approach to fortifications has evolved.
