The TVK-led Government of Tamil Nadu has notified the New Health Insurance Scheme for employees of government departments and eligible family members.Under the new scheme, employees will be entitled to a base coverage of ₹7.5 lakh for a block of five years, as against ₹5 lakh earlier.For specific severe illnesses, such as organ transplants, insurance coverage has been enhanced to ₹12 lakh from ₹10 lakh.The scheme covers 2,992 approved treatments and procedures, for the base coverage, along with 46 specified illness procedures eligible for the enhanced coverage.The insurance scheme will be implemented through the United India Insurance Company. The annual premium payable to the government will be ₹7,728, recovered from employees at a rate of ₹644 per month.Published on June 26, 2026
