The Junior Springboks will start the defence of their Junior World Championship on Saturday against Uruguay in Tbilisi, Georgia.
A year ago, Junior Springbok prop Rambo Kubheka would never have imagined he would be leading the South African U20 side in their opening match of the Junior World Championship.
However, in his second campaign, the youngster will have the privilege of captaining the reigning champions in their opening clash against Uruguay (6.30pm kick-off) on Saturday in Tbilisi, Georgia, as they look to start their title defence with a strong performance.
Kubheka was part of the winning squad under head coach Kevin Foote last year and, as one of the returning players, has a big role to play. Squad skipper Siphosethu Mnebelele starts on the bench, while regular captain Riley Norton is with the senior Springbok side. As a result, Foote handed the captaincy to the loosehead prop.
“It’s a blessing for me and such a great honour,” Kubheka said of his role as captain.
