Russian-installed authorities in occupied Crimea have declared a regional state of emergency as Ukrainian drone strikes continue to intensify against the peninsula’s infrastructure.
The decision was announced by Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-backed head of Crimea, who said the measure was introduced in coordination with the occupation administration in Sevastopol. According to him, the regime took effect at 13:00 and will remain in force until further notice.
“A state of emergency is being introduced in the Republic of Crimea from 13:00 today. This regime is being introduced in coordination with Sevastopol and will operate jointly and synchronously,” Aksyonov said in a video address.
He added that the purpose of the measure is to manage financial, credit, contractual and other administrative processes under disrupted conditions.
“The emergency legal regime allows for the fastest possible resolution of tasks related to ensuring the stable functioning of all sectors on which the population’s essential services depend,” he stated.
