Arsenal came to the table for Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle told them to come back with a bigger number.
The Gunners made a verbal offer for the Brazilian international midfielder, but it landed below the £60 million mark, a figure Newcastle apparently views as insufficient. The bid was rejected.
What Newcastle’s rejection tells us
Newcastle’s swift rejection tells us two things. First, the club values Guimaraes significantly higher than that threshold. Second, they’re not desperate to sell.
Under the ownership of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Newcastle operates from a position of financial strength that most Premier League clubs simply can’t match. They don’t need to offload star players to balance the books.
