With the onset of summer and rising temperatures, reports are emerging of daily blackouts and long hours of electricity and water cuts in various cities across Iran.
According to information obtained by IranWire, several areas in Ahvaz faced hours-long power outages today, Thursday, June 25.
A resident of the Zeytun-e Kargar neighborhood told IranWire, “The power went out around 10:00 AM, and no matter how many times we called the electricity department, nobody answered. The electricity finally came back at 2:00 PM. Here, when the power goes out, the water pumps stop working too, so we practically had no water either.”
Official reports recorded the temperature in Ahvaz on Thursday, June 25, at 43°C (109.4°F), placing the city among the hottest in the world. Meanwhile, temperatures reached 35°C (95°F) in Tehran, 36°C (96.8°F) in Isfahan and Shiraz, 38°C (100.4°F) in Bandar Abbas and Zahedan, and 37°C (98.6°F) in Kerman.
Power outages in Khuzestan Province are not limited to Ahvaz. IranWire has learned that citizens in certain neighborhoods of Susangerd, Abadan, Khorramshahr, and Mahshahr are also facing blackouts lasting between two and three hours. A resident of Mahshahr said, “Both of my elderly parents suffered severe heat stroke due to the intense heat, and I have absolutely no idea how we are going to get through this summer.”
