The U.S. men's national team wrapped up the 2026 World Cup group stage with a 3-2 loss to Turkey on Thursday, June 25 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The USMNT finishes top of Group D and will play Bosnia & Herzegovina in the round of 32.Mauricio Pochettino made nine changes to the side that defeated Australia last week, with only Weston McKennie and Ricardo Pepi keeping their spots in the starting lineup.Despite the massive amount of changes, the Americans once again got off to a flying start by scoring their second quickest goal ever in the World Cup. Auston Trusty latched onto a Sebastian Berhalter corner kick and smashed in his first career international goal in the third minute.Buy USMNT World Cup tickets!Unlike the previous two group matches, the early joy wouldn't last as Turkey grew into the match and found an equalizer through Arda Güler in the 10th minute. They would take the lead 20 minutes later after Orkun Kökçü finished off a lovely team move.Just a few minutes after the halftime break, Sebastian Berhalter pulled the U.S. back level with a fantastic strike from outside of the box. The matched appeared destined to end in a tie until Turkey's Kaan Ayhan turned in the winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time with the last kick of the game. The USMNT will take on Bosnia & Herzegovina on Wednesday, July 1 in Santa Clara, California.Let's take a look at how the U.S. players performed:GK: Matt Turner - 5He made zero saves and conceded three goals. You can say he may have been unlucky but the end result is the same.RWB: Joe Scally - 6Scally provided some good energy on the right flank on both sides of the ball. He doesn't provide the dynamism of Dest, but he's a solid option if needed in the future.RCB: Mark McKenzie - 5He had some shaky moments of tracking runners and dealing with Turkey's movement.CCB: Miles Robinson - 5.5Got pulled out of position on Turkey's first goal. Overall, he avoided the big mistake, but he still holds a portion of the blame as the anchor of the defense.LCB: Auston Trusty - 6.5It was an incredible scene for him to score his first international goal at a World Cup. However, defensively he had some questionable moments that lead to Turkey getting clear chances.LWB: Tim Weah - 4.5It was a rough night for Weah, who struggled to make an impact on the left flank. Admittedly, it's not his ideal position. However, he was either offside or giving the ball away too easily with nearly every touch. He'll need to shake this showing off when he returns to his substitute role in the knockouts.CM: Sebastian Berhalter - 7A fantastic strike from the midfielder, who did his best to fill Tyler Adam's shoes. Defensively, it's clear he's not a true No. 6, but he did an adequate job when asked to play it.CM: Weston McKennie - 7It was another exemplary performance for McKennie, who was the motor of the team once again. He's come so close to finding a goal, but it eludes him. It feels like one is coming soon.RAM: Gio Reyna - 5.5Reyna received a big chance to start but was unable to take advantage. He really didn't get many opportunities to impact the game around the attacking end.LAM: Brenden Aaronson - 5Everyone knows Aaronson brings energy to the team. What he lacks is final product and that once again proved to be true as he missed an open goal on a rebound and failed to connect on some important passes going forward.ST: Ricardo Pepi - 5.5The hold-up play was quite good as usual. Other than that, he failed to offer much else in the way of danger for Turkey. His sloppiness on the ball cost the team a few chances to score.Sub: Christian Pulisic - 6.5He appears to have shaken off the calf injury as he looked fresh and motivated. This team needs him at 100% in the knockouts.Sub: Sergiño Dest - 5.5Never got a chance to get on the ball and make an impact. Turkey seemed to exploit the right side of the defense after he came on.Sub: Alex Zendejas - 6Only a brief runout in his World Cup debut. He only had a few moments on the ball and was unable to create anything.Sub: Alex Freeman - 5.5He was brought on to shore up the defense and was unable to help clear the ball on the winning goal. It's harsh to blame him, but he's at least partially at fault.Sub: Malik Tillman - NRLate sub. Only touched the ball a few times.
