A commuter's metal chain getting lodged in a train door guideway led to the disruption of Namma Metro service at Cubbon Park station on the Purple Line on June 25 evening. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) shared the findings of a preliminary investigation on June 26.The incident, which occurred between 7.36 pm and 7.54 pm, led to a temporary disruption of Namma Metro services and resulted in overcrowding at several stations along the Purple Line during the evening peak hours.
In a media release issued on Friday, BMRCL said that the investigations conducted by its Operations and Maintenance teams revealed that the metal chain got stuck in the train door guideway, preventing the doors from closing properly. As a result, the train could not proceed until the obstruction was removed, causing the delay in services.
The corporation clarified that a detailed inspection of the train and its door systems found no technical malfunction in the equipment, ruling out mechanical failure as the cause of the disruption.
