The writer argues that we can achieve peace in our world by recognising our shared humanity and learning actionable steps we can all take to contribute to a more harmonious co-existence.

Each one of us can contribute to harmony and peace – to free our planet from conflict and wars – by recognising that we are members of one human family, created by one Almighty Creator. Our physical differences such as skin colour, hair texture, or ethnicity are merely superficial, and confer no superiority of one ethnic group or another.

Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, says: “Close your eyes to racial differences, and welcome all with the light of oneness” and “Consort with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship” and “Deal ye one with another with the utmost love and harmony, with friendliness and fellowship. … So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth”.

Much of the conflict, warfare, and bloodshed witnessed in many parts of the world today can be traced to prejudice in its many forms. For us to build peaceful and just communities, we must eliminate prejudices of all kinds – whether based on race, class, of ethnicity, gender, or religious belief.
