Sir, – Joe McLaughlin Letters, (June 25th) advocates the use of a fountain pen in order to improve Frank McNally’s writing skills. But in my experience there is a potential flaw in his advice, – that being the assumption that the bould Frank is not a ciotóg like myself and many others.I found my handwriting to resemble a work of abstract art any time I’ve ever tried using a fountain pen, with a collage of smudged words being the result of my sinister endeavours – Yours, etc,LEO Ó SEANÁIN, Droichead Nua, Co Chill Dara.Sir, – Following on from Frank McNally’s complaint that typing has ruined his handwriting, back in the 1970s my friend was on the path to be an engineer. His teacher pulled him up on his appalling spelling and handwriting.
