Patrik Schick has called time on his Czech Republic career. The Bayer Leverkusen forward announced his retirement from international football on June 25, 2026, just hours after his country crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the group stage.
The Czech Republic finished bottom of Group A with a single point from three matches, and their most prolific active striker decided he’d seen enough.
A career defined by one electric tournament
Schick’s international resume reads well on paper: 56 caps, 26 goals.
But the number that matters most is five. That’s how many goals Schick scored at UEFA Euro 2020, the pandemic-delayed tournament held in the summer of 2021. He shared the Golden Boot at that competition with Cristiano Ronaldo.
