I’m exactly half Martha Stewart’s age right now, and I can only hope to look as good as she does her in 20 years, never mind 40 years. Despite having used seemingly every anti-aging serum and cream for mature skin out there, very few things seem to work for me. So, when I heard an icon like Stewart was releasing her own skin care under the brand Elm Biosciences, I jumped at the chance to review the products. I first tested the line’s A30 Elemental Serum last year and recently picked up the newest product, a night cream. Our beauty editor, Sophie Shaw, has also been testing the products and comparing them to the plethora of anti-aging formulas that come across her desk.
That Stewart would enter the beauty chat at 84 years of age delighted me, but it didn’t exactly surprise me. Here is a woman in her 80s who is not only attempting to turn back the clock, aesthetically speaking, but is willing to put her legendary brand and reputation behind a skin care line. It’s a brave move as a highly scrutinized public figure, but it’s also one that’s very on-brand for the multihyphenate. Stewart, who’s never one to do things halfway, cofounded Elm with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, and they worked with an advisory board of more than 350 dermatologists, scientists and medical researchers to invent the skin care and accompanying daily skin supplement (which we didn’t try).
