Pau Cubarsí, the club’s breakout defensive talent, went public on June 14 with praise for new signing Anthony Gordon, calling out the English winger’s work ethic, intensity, and commitment to team play as exactly the qualities Barcelona needs.
What Barcelona paid and what they’re getting
Barcelona announced the Gordon deal on May 29, bringing the Newcastle United winger to Camp Nou for an initial €70 million that could rise to €80 million with performance-related add-ons. The structure includes a €5 million bonus triggered if Barcelona wins either La Liga or the Champions League, tying Gordon’s full cost directly to silverware.
Gordon arrives off a 17-goal season at Newcastle in 2025/26, comfortably his most prolific campaign in the Premier League.
Cubarsí, who faced Gordon in the Champions League before this transfer materialized, singled out the 25-year-old’s versatility and willingness to put in defensive shifts.
