The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is planning to establish two parks with inclusive play equipment for children with disabilities at existing playgrounds in Arignar Anna Park, Old Washermenpet, in Royapuram Zone, and Anna Nagar West Millennium Park in Anna Nagar Zone, at a combined estimated cost of ₹3.42 crore.Notably, the Chennai Corporation’s 2025-26 Budget had earmarked ₹3 crore for special play areas and play equipment for children in 10 parks across the city.One of these projects now is planned at Arignar Anna Park under Royapuram Zone and is expected to cost ₹1.43 crore.The other such proposed facility at Anna Nagar West Millennium Park under Amabttur Zone is estimated to cost ₹1.99 crore.The new facilities will feature sensory play elements, including tactile wall panels, textured flooring, rubberised safety surfaces and specialised play equipment such as rope swings, balancing beams and accessible merry-go-rounds for children with disabilities.The inclusive play infrastructure would be within existing park premises to provide accessible outdoor play environments for the kids while integrating with the existing public parks, according to GCC.The works are proposed to be executed by the Chennai Corporation’s Parks Department via private agency within six months from handover and tenders will be rolled out soon.
