A man who nearly drowned at St James tidal pool earlier this month is recovering after a dramatic and complex rescue involving swimmers, medically trained bystanders, and emergency services.
Victor Lefoka, from Polokwane, was pulled from the deep end of the tidal pool on the morning of June 9, after being seen in distress in the water.
He had arrived at the tidal pool shortly after getting off a train in St James, and later described how conditions changed rapidly once he entered the water.
“I went down and tried to get back up. I guess I must have panicked,” he said.
