These changes aim to update the fee structure for various passport services.iStockIndian passport application fees hikedThe Centre on Thursday increased the fee for a fresh ordinary 36-page passport or its reissue to Rs 2,500 from Rs 1,500, while the Tatkal charge has been raised to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,500, under amendments to the Passports Rules, 1980, that will come into effect from July 1, 2026.The changes were notified through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, issued by the Ministry of External Affairs and published on Thursday.
