DA MP Dean Macpherson has rejected ActionSA’s claims that he is avoiding accountability, saying his court challenge is based on alleged procedural and constitutional flaws in Parliament’s ethics process.

Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament Dean Macpherson has rejected ActionSA’s allegations that he is attempting to avoid accountability by taking Parliament’s Ethics Committee findings on review, arguing that the party has failed to address a dismissed affidavit claim that he referred to people as “hobos”.

Macpherson’s comments come after ActionSA accused him of trying to evade accountability by challenging the findings of Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests in court.

This comes after Parliament’s Ethics Committee found that Macpherson breached the Code of Ethical Conduct over comments made outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court in July 2025, in which he referred to ActionSA supporters as “amaphara”.

The committee found that Macpherson violated the MPs’ Code of Conduct by using what it described as a derogatory and discriminatory term when referring to ActionSA members.
