President Donald Trump’s chief ideologue, Stephen Miller, is no longer even trying to hide his determination to game the outcome of America’s midterm elections in November.

In plain sight on Elon Musk’s X on Wednesday, the Deputy Chief of Staff in Trump’s White House published one of the darkest threats to American democracy ever articulated by a senior American official.

“Change the voters, change the country”, he wrote. In a mere six words he revealed the determination of Trump and his inner circle to rig the rules in November so that Republicans cannot lose, and he made the scale of the President’s ambitions ruthlessly apparent.

Miller’s inflammatory message was posted shortly after his boss engaged in a bruising shouting match with Republican senators on Capitol Hill. Trump is enraged that they are refusing to pass ‘The SAVE America Act’, legislation the White House hails as “common sense” electoral reform that would require all voters to present identification and proof of their US citizenship in order to cast their ballots.

The hour-long, closed-door lunch was reportedly explosive. Trump refused to give Senate Majority Leader John Thune any opportunity to speak. Instead, the President tore into his own party’s leading figures in Congress, accusing them of betrayal for backing legislation earlier this week that would prevent him from waging further war on Iran.
