Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacted to remarks made by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte by accusing the military alliance of “active complicity” in the war against Iran, stating that NATO and its member states must be held accountable for the consequences of this action.

Writing on the social media platform X on Wednesday evening, June 24, Baghaei stated: “This is an explicit admission of NATO’s active complicity in an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign UN member state; a blatant violation of international law rules and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.”

He added: “This organization and its member governments that participated in such decision-making processes must be held accountable for all of its consequences.”

Referencing Mark Rutte’s interview with Fox News, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson identified Italy and Romania among the countries that he claimed participated in the strikes against Iran.

Baghaei wrote: “These countries, along with any other European nation that assisted this U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran, must explain to their own people and the international community why they became accomplices in this blatant act of aggression and in the commission of widespread crimes against the Iranian people.”
