The Danish government is considering a nationwide ban on the Islamic call to prayer, known as the Adhan, as part of what officials describe as efforts to curb the growing influence of Islam in public spaces.
According to Danish media reports, Immigration Minister Morten Bodskov of the ruling Social Democrats confirmed that the newly formed government would revisit an investigation into whether prohibiting the public broadcast of the Muslim call to prayer would be legally permissible under Danish law.
Speaking to news outlet Ritzau, Bodskov declared that the Adhan should not be publicly heard across Denmark.
“The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops,” Bodskov was quoted as saying.
“It has no place in Denmark, and you shouldn’t be in any doubt whether you’ve ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.”
