BYD has just launched a big new model, the refresh of one of its most popular models of all time. The new BYD Great Tang pulled in 150,000 pre-orders before pricing was even announced, the most reservations a BYD model has ever received. And then pricing was announced….

The BYD Great Tang is coming at a price of just $35,500, or up to $45,900 on the fully loaded end, while offering 497–590 miles of range on a full charge, ultra-fast charging thanks to the new and improved Blade battery, and a luxury 7-seat interior. That price is more than a thousand dollars lower than its expected price. So, those 150,000+ early reservation holders were in for a nice surprise right from the start.

Even the base trim of the new Great Tang has a whopping 105.8 kWh battery, while the higher trim includes a 130.15 kWh battery. With nearly 600 miles (WLTP) of driving range, honestly, any concerns about EV range should be out the window and long, long gone.

The least powerful trim of the Great Tang comes with 496 hp from the rear (solo) motor, while a dual-motor version has 784 hp and can sprint from 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds despite the vehicle’s large size. Pretty wild. Imagine if Marty McFly came to town from the past and got to test this vehicle out.
