Magistrates in Kwara State, under the umbrella of the Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria (MAN), have declared that they will embark on an indefinite strike beginning Thursday, July 2, 2026, over poor welfare conditions, unpaid allowances and unfair treatment by the state government.

The decision was announced in an official communiqué issued on Wednesday after a congress of magistrates in the state, where members expressed frustration and anger over unresolved welfare issues affecting their members.

According to the communiqué signed by the Chairman of MAN in Kwara State, the magistrates resolved to down tools after what they described as years of neglect, particularly in the areas of salary structure, allowances and official vehicles.

The association said one of its major grievances is the current salary structure, which it described as unjust and embarrassing, noting that a Grade Level 14 Magistrate currently earns less than a Grade Level 14 Court Registrar.

The magistrates also decried the non-payment of furniture allowance, which they said is statutorily due every four years but was last paid during the administration of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
