TVTV NewsGood Morning BritainLionel Richie was forced to halt his first concert of his new tour mid performance when he fell ill08:42, 25 Jun 2026A Good Morning Britain star shared a heartfelt message to Lionel Richie live on air.On Thursday’s (June 25) episode of the ITV hit breakfast show Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway made a return to our TV screens as they presented the days top stories from the UK and beyond.During the broadcast the duo were joined by entertainment reporter Richard Arnold, who came on to deliver for his regular showbiz update.Before he could get stuck into his segment, Richard Madeley was quick to point out: "Richard's here with a bit of worrying news.” Richard Arnold reported on recent news that Lionel Richie, 77, was forced to cut his first concert short when he fell ill mid-performance.The singer was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota when he announced an unusual 40-minute break. Following this, he ended the show.Sharing the "worrying news" with GMB viewers watching at home, Arnold started off by saying: “Yes, just news overnight. Lionel Richie was taken ill during a show last night. The star was performing in Minnesota at the start of this tour with Earth, Wing and Fire.“When Lionel announced an unscheduled intermission after 30 minutes, a member of his band came back on stage and announced Lionel wouldn’t be returning as he was feeling ill.”Sending support to the star, he continued: “According to fans Lionel felt dizzy whilst singing Dancing on the Ceiling and actually sat down on the stage. Obviously, we wish Lionel a speedy recovery. It’s the start of a 26 day tour.”The TV presenter added: “He’s 77-years-old and he frankly looks about 15/20 years younger. Having met him many times, he's a very spirited individual."So hopefully he’ll be back on the road soon and feeling the heat of the light. Once again, wishing him all the very best.”Article continues belowAt the time, after performing Three Times A Lady from the piano, Lional said there would be an intermission and left the stage. His band left the stage minutes later, and one later returned to say that Richie could not come back as he was feeling ill.Saxophonist Dino Soldo, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, said: "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue.
