32-year-old Paul White is off to the Commonwealth Games.
South Africa’s bowling fraternity is celebrating this week after SASCOC unveiled the national team that will fly the flag at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Among the athletes named on Wednesday evening were the lawn bowlers hand-picked by Bowls South Africa following a demanding camp held at Midstream Indoor Bowls.
Under the intense scrutiny of the BSA selectors, the country’s premier bowlers spent days refining their skills, forging combinations and preparing to proudly don the green and gold on one of the sport’s most prestigious international stages.
For the first time in bowling history, the Commonwealth Games will be contested on indoor greens, placing a premium on the adaptability honed during the national camp.
One of the three men selected is Paul White, the 32-year-old Westville Bowling Club star who will lead for Jason Evans in the men’s pairs. When reached for comment, White was still struggling to find his footing after the life-changing news. “I’m shocked speechless,” he admitted.
