A Lithuanian volunteer soldier was killed in Ukraine earlier this month. Speaking to LRT, his former colleague André Aguiar said Ignas Kailius, nicknamed Iggy, had served in a predominantly Brazilian and Colombian unit.
“Iggy was an exemplary soldier, very strong and very loved,” Aguiar, a Brazilian volunteer soldier, told LRT.lt via social media.
Kailius, in his 20s, died during a combat mission in southern Ukraine while serving alongside other foreign nationals.
Aguiar said Kailius was responsible for keeping their positions supplied and manned, as well as being “responsible for missions involving the escort of prisoners who had surrendered”.According to Aguiar, Ignas had learned some Portuguese while serving with the South Americans.
“Iggy spoke Portuguese reasonably well, and the line we were on was approximately 70% Brazilians and Colombians,” Aguiar said.
