In those fleeting moments on camera, Clarke managed to criticize his own team’s performance, effectively concede their tournament was over, and then decide he’d had enough of talking about it.

When the conversation turned to Scotland’s chances of advancing from Group C, Clarke’s pessimism was immediate and unfiltered.
