The Metropolitan Police has announced plans to deploy drones across all of London to help fight crime.

In a speech, Met commissioner Sir Mark Rowley also called for greater freedom to deploy new technologies, saying calls for regulation risk “slowing progress” to the point that police “cannot keep pace” with criminals.

Rowley said the drones would be used to respond to 999 calls, giving police information on what resources to deploy, as well as for other applications such as tracking suspects and supplying other intelligence.
