CARACAS, June 25. /TASS/. A powerful earthquake in Venezuela has caused massive damage to housing infrastructure, Columbia’s Radio Caracol reported.
"Venezuela hasn't experienced an earthquake of this magnitude in a long time. <...> It wasn't just strong, it also lasted a very long time, about two minutes," a radio station’s correspondent said on the air. According to her estimates, such massive damage hasn't been recorded in more than 40 years, which is complicating the authorities' efforts to provide assistance to those affected.
The earthquake struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, with two series of shocks with magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 occurring within 40 seconds. Their epicenters were located ten kilometers apart in the state of Yaracuy.
