The Town Centre in Mitchells Plain resembles a Ghost Town.
As South Africa braces for planned anti-immigration protests on June 30, foreign nationals, community leaders, faith-based organisations and law enforcement agencies in Cape Town are appealing for calm.
In parts of Bellville, Mitchells Plain and Central Cape Town, the impact can already be felt and seen, with businesses being impacted as hubs resemble “ghost towns” and bus stations are filled with those preparing to leave the country.
This week, more than 300 foreign nationals gathered at the Mitchells Plain police station to meet with SAPS management, formulate a plan of action and prepare should there be unrest.
SAPS also warned business owners to be vigilant of criminals acting on opportunity who may strike and loot their shops.
