EU to announce first tranche of Ukraine loan in Poland

WARSAW – Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, is expected to announce the first tranche of the EU’s €90 billion loan to Kyiv at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk.

The gathering on Thursday is overshadowed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s absence after the Ukrainian president pulled out.

Von der Leyen is expected to announce the first tranche of Ukraine’s €90 billion loan, diplomats and officials told Euractiv.

The €8 billion tranche will consist of financial support for both Ukraine’s general public budget and defence sector.
